Hola! My name is Erick, I'm from Mexico, and I have a degree in International Relations. I am a Spanish native speaker and fluent in English and French. I also have basic communication skills in Polish, Arabic, and Russian. I have been teaching languages for over a year in formal and informal educational programs in Poland, Tanzania, Moldova, and Greece. Added to this I have completed courses focused on teaching. Adaptability is one of my main strengths and this allows me to better understand the learner needs and create an effective and fun way for them to learn a new language. I am also a very patient person and I understand that learning a language can be difficult but at the same time is a great way to challenge yourself when you achieve your goal you will not only be proud of yourself but this new language will open infinite opportunities for you. The lessons with me are meant to be casual, fun, and centered in real-life scenarios, and that keeps the learner motivated throughout the amazing process of learning languages. Hello, my name is Edson but you can call me Ed. I'm Mexican and for that reason my native tongue is Spanish but I also speak English since I have taken private classes for more than two years to learn English, so in case you have to speak English to communicate it will be no problem. I can tell you that learning Spanish can be easier than English since the vocals in Spanish always sound the same but in English the sound of the vocals can be different depending on the word and the verbs in English can change depending on the time like go/went but in Spanish rarely that happens.

WHY NOT TO LEARN SPANISH?
Mariana

Spanish teacher online near you

Teacher joined in Mar, 2024

Hello and welcome, My name is Mariana and I live in Australia. My native country is Argentina. Spanish is my first language. My professional environment was scientific; I have a PhD in Biochemistry working as a researcher at different Institutes. My interest in Spanish teaching started with my arrival in Australia twenty years ago when I asked for Spanish lessons at the Research Institute where I was working. So, I decided to take training courses to be an ELE (Español como Lengua Extranjera) teacher at Cervantes Institute in Sydney. I also had the opportunity to attend conferences and training workshops focused on teaching Spanish. Preferably, my lessons are focused on Levels A1 and A2; this is a classification given by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (Marco Común Europeo de Referencia para las lenguas) and it means that my classes point to students without Spanish acknowledge or those with a Spanish background (i.e: they took some Spanish lessons, work or relative environment with Spanish background) and they looking forward to continuing learning the language. I also had the experience of learning a second language and one of the motivating factors to learn a language is the feeling of inclusion, not to experience isolation because we cannot communicate in the language of the environment. This linguistic anxiety occurs in both adults and kids. For this reason, I have just started teaching Spanish to kids from five years old. The learning method is based on games, focuses on activities that encourage action, and includes topics such as the person, the society, the music, the arts, and mathematics. It aims to provide tools to the kid to face a new language. The lessons that I offer have two characteristics: 1) customized because they adapt to individual interests and aims and 2) communicational because speaking a language is a communication tool that allows us to socialize and reach aims. The structure of my lessons has three sections: the first one is based on vocabulary and grammar content that will be used in that lesson; the second one is to put into practice the first section with cultural and communicational examples and the third section is focused on the revision with activities extra-activities to allow the student to reflect and secure what it was learned during the class and also give me the chance to offer feedback at the beginning of the following class. There is a connection between my lessons to allow the learning of the language to be integrative and gradual. By experience, we learn a language by repetition and integrating concepts and sentences. In summary, my lessons are the result of the interplay between the student and myself as a teacher and they will depend on what the student wishes to reach, why the student needs it, and how the student wishes to do it. This is all, if you want to learn Spanish or improve from an initial level, adult or kid, I will be waiting for you in my classes. See you soon. Mariana How do I motivate my students? Any individual has different needs and my compromise is to find a methodology that makes the learning process encouraging. The ultimate goal is to be part of the journey of learning a language. Certifications: 1) Since 2018, I have taken several courses and graduated at the Cervantes Institute in Sydney which gave me the tools to start giving private lessons. 2) Since we live in a virtual world, the next course that I took was: Acreditación de Tutores AVE (Aula Virtual Espanol) Global. This course gave me the training and accreditation to teach Spanish by the CEFR (Common European Framework of References for Languages) for levels A1, A2, B1, B2, and C1. The course is based on real teaching scenarios in which the multifaceted cultural and linguistic features of both Spain and Latin America are being addressed. Methodology: Cervantes Institute in Sydney gave me the tools to start giving private lessons and more important gave me the background to prepare individual lessons using a methodology that adapts to the needs of the student. I used multiple materials and books to respond to different levels according to the Common European Framework of References for Languages for A1, A2, B1, B2, and C1. 3) Jornadas Didácticas de Español en línea para profesores de español. Australasia. Este fue un Webinario para Profesorado de Español, Cómo crear materiales de forma fácil y práctica con herramientas digitales, organizado por Consejería de Educación en Australia, Filipinas y Nueva Zelanda y la Junta de Castilla y León, el 27 de abril de 2021, con un total de una hora lectiva. 3)"HACU Spanish Language Training Platform. Prestigiando la lengua española en Estados Unidos. This Webinar explained how to introduce and expand Spanish in a country where English is the official language.

Hello all, I am Dominican born and raised in Dominican Republic. Like you I've been in the journey of learning languages, I am fluent in English, learning Japanese now, so I understand your concerns about knowing grammar vs be able to communicate with locals. What has helped me the most has been to listen and talk. That is what made me different than my peers that took English classes with me that took my skills to another level. If I just stayed with the grammar and what I learned from school, I would have not been able to communicate with native English speakers. I want you to feel safe to speak, commit mistakes and improve, while helping you to also understand better the basic grammar. Don't be afraid in this process, learning a language is easy, what makes it difficult is the fear to speak it.

What are the Benefits of Learning Spanish with a Private Tutor?

Learning with a private tutor means you get to learn at your own pace, ask questions whenever you choose and get undivided attention. If you join a group class, you may experience Spanish lessons that are either too slow or go too fast for you.

Here are some top benefits of learning Spanish with a private tutor:

Customized Spanish classes

It's true that people have different learning techniques and styles which are in accordance with their learning skills. Although we all have a blend of learning styles, there is a primary style of learning.

For instance, traditional Spanish classes may focus too much on your vocabulary and quizzes. However, if you're not so good with quizzes, you may get the impression that Spanish is difficult or you'll never get to be fluent in it.

When you take lessons with a private Spanish tutor, you can discuss your preferred learning style with your tutor. Also, your tutor will use the best method of explaining difficult topics to you. Private tutoring helps you to be comfortable while learning and not be put under pressure from being with other students.

It offers better results

One benefit of having a private Spanish tutor is that it allows you to concentrate, offering better results. According to studies, where you take classes can determine how much you'd learn. Also, once you have a particular place where you learn, you can be 100% focused and retain more information. After all, the main essence of taking private Spanish lessons is to learn effectively.

Other benefits are:

  • You get continuous feedback from your Spanish tutor
  • Private lessons improve your confidence and self-esteem
  • You can suggest the topics you're specifically interested in learning
  • You get to learn Spanish any day you choose. It offers flexibility
  • You have the full attention of your Spanish tutor

How Many People in the World Speak Spanish?

Like Italian, Romanian, Portuguese and French, Spanish is a Romance language. By Romance, we do not mean it is a language of love (although we must admit that many people find Romance languages romantic), it means that the language evolved from Vulgar Latin.

Spanish has its root in the Iberian peninsula which is situated in southwest Europe (present-day Portugal and Spain). Spanish was formed by the Castilian continuation of Vulgar Latin mixed with the Moors' Arabic dialect. After many years of both languages being mixed, standard Spanish was birthed in the 1200s.

In the world, there are over 450 million native Spanish speakers. Right behind Spanish is English with about 360 million native speakers, making it the third most spoken language in the world. Additionally, Spanish ranks as the third most studied language in the world coming after French and English.

Adding to the number of native Spanish speakers, there are about 75 million people in the world that speak Spanish as their second language. Although the US has about 12 million bilingual Spanish speakers and 42 million native speakers, it is the second country with the largest Spanish speakers (Mexico is first). According to a study, there are predictions that the US will overtake Mexico to be the largest Spanish speaking country by 2050.

One of the 24 official languages of the European Union is Spanish. It is also spoken by a small number of people in countries like Germany, the UK, Italy and France.

Is Spanish Difficult to Learn?

Let's compare learning a new language to being an athlete. Athletes make it look easy on the field but they have put hours into their sport practice and at times where they really felt like giving all up. Like being an athlete, to learn any language at all, you have to understand it's not easy. However, the fact it's tasking doesn't mean it's difficult.

To learn Spanish, you need plenty of practice, dedication, enthusiasm and talent. Also, your knowledge of a second language can determine how easily you learn Spanish. Learning a new language becomes easy if you've learnt one or two languages before.

In addition, your knowledge of a Romance language can help you learn Spanish easily. Spanish is similar to Italian and Portuguese. However, if you're a native English speaker, things can get pretty difficult.

Being a native English speaker shouldn't stop you from learning Spanish. For instance, Spanish and English share similar sentence structures. Also, some Spanish words are easy to coin from English words which are referred to as English-Spanish cognates.

How Soon Can I Become Fluent in Spanish?

Spanish is quite similar to English making it a category 1 language. Owing to this, it will take you about two years to become fluent in Spanish if you study for one hour a day. However, you can choose to speed things up by learning Spanish with a private tutor for more than one hour every day.

Studying for a minimum of three hours daily can get you to conversation fluency in around six months. Summarily, the more time you spend studying Spanish, the quicker you achieve fluency.

While full immersion is advised, you can have fun while learning Spanish by watching famous Spanish movies, travelling to Spain or reading Spanish novels.
